Organising flash mob launch events, also known as "CarrotMobs", is by far the best way to get 9carrots up and running in your community. Flash mob events need to be in a pub or bar. You can't flash mob an opticians and all buy glasses!
This area is about organising them, marketing them and how to make the most of the event for long term 9carrots community involvement. Check out the flyers and other media and email pages.

Contact everyone!
- feb, 2011by anewholmThe first thing to do when running an event is compile a list of every group and environmental person in the area. Then send them emails / ring them to spread the idea. Here are some example searches on Google for local groups in the Birmingham area:
- http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=birmingham+green
- http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=birmingham+community
These searches come up with all sorts of things including businesses that have won green awards, organising groups, and everything else. Add your own.
Student groups
Students love a good party and are really open to cool new ideas too. Take advantage: Find your nearest Colleges and Universities and contact:
- Environmental department heads
- Student societies (Env society, Politics society, ...)
Main environmental groups
For example:
- Transition Towns (bottom-up community based movement very similar to 9carrots)
- People and Planet (student group similar to Transition Towns in thinking)
- Friends Of the Earth local groups (bottom-up local group based)
- Greenpeace local groups (national top-down organisation)
- The Green Party (or other Green political parties)
You can go to their meetings or email them directly.
Other networkshttp://www.couchsurfing.org/ Couch surfing is a good network to post events on at.

Arrange "things" to add to the event
- feb, 2011by anewholmPeople get much more excited when the event includes professionally organised elements. For example:
- A band
- Comedian
- Speakers

Facebook, whether you like it or not, is the most effective social event organiser around. Especially when connecting with certain demographics. Setting up an event is easy. This section is about learning how to make optimal use of its features and communication ability.

Facebook ads!
- mar, 2011by anewholm
Facebook ads can be limited to a particular area, demographic, students of a particular university, etc. You only pay when someone clicks on one up to a limit that you set, even though it will be seen by many more people. Ours typically get between 0 and 20 clicks and thus costs only a few pounds, but are seen by thousands of people who will then be more likely to recognise your flyer or event when they see it later.
Create yours at http://www.facebook.com/advertising/ (is quite easy!)

Inviting press can be important. Local, national, paper, TV and other.
Press releases have their own style, audience, timing and aims. This section contains all the press releases sent out so far after events.

Send an update 3 days before the event about more businesses!
- feb, 2011by anewholmThis can be really effective in building momentum and re-vitalising interest in the event. Here is an example:
5 more businesses like Urban Village have signed up to the 9carrots scheme in the last week. You can shop with them any time and help them become more energy efficient. They will invest ten percent of the sale towards green upgrades for their shop:
+ Cafe Latte
+ BuyWise Express
+ The Station pub
+ Hare & Hounds pub
+ Thyme Out cafe
Check out what these businesses are saving for at http://sellyoak.9carrots.org/consumer/search
See you on Thursday! :) -
